The cinches (also called girths) hold the saddle tight to the animal’s back to minimize front-to-rear and side-to-side movement. The more contact the saddle makes with the animal’s back, the easier it is for the cinches to hold the saddle in place. It is imperative that cinch hardware be strong and durable. Two side-release buckles on the front and rear cinch connect to pannier stabilizing straps, while two side release buckles on the rear cinch connect to the diagonal breeching strap. Excess strap ends fit into sleeves on the cinches.
(We have designed a cinch system specifically for goats, so please select the QDC-Goat option if you will be using the system with goats.)
Sopris cinches are typically made from materials like mohair, neoprene, and fleece. Mohair is breathable and wicks moisture away, providing comfort and flexibility, while neoprene offers grip and is easy to clean, though it may not dissipate heat as well; fleece is soft but can be difficult to maintain.
Materials Used in Sopris Cinches
Sopris cinches are typically made from a variety of materials, each offering unique benefits that can impact performance and comfort for both horse and rider.
Common Materials
| MATERIAL | DESCRIPTION | IMPACT ON PERFORMANCE |
| Mohair | A natural fiber from Angora goats, known for its softness and breathability. | Provides comfort, wicks moisture, and allows for movement. |
| Neoprene | A synthetic rubber material that is easy to clean and maintain. | Offers grip and durability but may retain heat and moisture. |
| Fleece | A soft, synthetic material that feels comfortable against the horse's skin. | Soft but can mat and retain dirt, affecting comfort. |
| Wool Felt | A natural fiber that provides cushioning and insulation. | Offers comfort and breathability, but requires regular cleaning. |
Performance Impact:
Choosing the right material for a Sopris cinch is crucial for ensuring optimal performance and comfort during rides. Each material has its strengths and weaknesses, so riders should consider their specific needs and riding conditions.
